Reishi mushroom – what is it?
The Chinese lingzhi mushroom, or in the Japanese version, reishi, is a valuable raw material for obtaining dietary supplements and medicines in tradional oriental medicine. - Polysaccharides - high-molecular polymers with a pronounced positive effect on the function of the gastrointestinal tract and specific effects for each type of polysaccharide. Thus, the components of reishi mushrooms activate immunity to fight bacteria, viruses, fungi and tumor cells;
- Peptidoglycans are also a type of polysaccharides consisting of glucose monomers linked by glucose bonds. Beta-glucans are especially important, accounting for up to 50% of the immunostimulating and immunomodulatory effect of medicinal mushrooms. They are not fragmented in the gastrointestinal tract and, getting on the intestinal mucosa, activate the activity of macrophages and lymphocytes, thereby increasing local immunity. In addition, part of the beta-glucans enters the intestine, where they stimulate the production of cytokines and, accordingly, increase overall immunity.
