What is a Lion's mane?
Lion's mane is a mushroom that is widely used to improve health, as well as as a delicacy. Useful properties of Lion's mane
The health benefits of lion's mane mushroom are due to the presence of the following groups of substances in its composition:
- polysaccharides, in particular beta-glucans, beta-glucoxylan and several protein complexes, which are effective for increasing local and general immunity, as well as preventing cancer;
- Gericene - inhibits the growth and reproduction of bacteria, has a cytotoxic effect, that is, contributes to the inhibition of cell growth, including tumor cells;
- Hericenones also destroy tumor cells - a number of studies have shown that the effect of hericenones is comparable to chemotherapy. Hericenones also promote the synthesis of nerve cells, therefore they are effective against Alzheimer's disease;
- Erinacins have a similar effect on nerve cell growth by stimulating the synthesis of neurotrophins.
The mushroom Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) contains essential oil, consisting of 77 aromatic and other components, including hexadecanoic and linoleic acids and aldehydes. The fruiting body contains a complex of phytochemicals, trace elements, vitamins, in particular ergosterol (provitamin D2), proteins, which determines its wide use in traditional and evidence-based medicine, especially in Asian countries. The beneficial properties of the spicatum are explained by the following effects:
- inhibition of the growth of gram-positive bacteria;
- immunomodulatory effect, especially when using extracts with a high content of beta-glucans;
